Why Not Now?

jump_by_smasquelet_xscPeople often seem to postpone the most precious events in their lives until after death, I just realized. Therefor, the question I would like to ask you is: “Why (not) now?”

In my life, I experienced a couple of true ‘just jump’-moments. Moments in which you need to decide whether you go for it or not in a short time, based on gut feeling or a very quick analysis of pros and cons. You might wonder: “Looking back, did you take the right decision in those cases?” So far, I’d say “yes!” in every case. Because despite the consequences being positive or negative, the result was always a wonderful experience (or more than one!) or a priceless lesson (or more than one!).

“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.”
Mark Victor Hansen

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Mark Twain

‘Just do it’ – a cool slogan and one of the wisest advices to follow.

For a long time I was afraid to jump into the water my head forward. I stood on a starting block in the pool, my legs freezing every time I had to push off. Then, pretty tired of that, I just thought: ‘OK, NOW!’ – and jumped. And… It turned out to be one of the most exciting sensations I’d ever had! Deep into the water, a whirl of bubbles curling around your body – as if you’ve jumped into a pool of champagne… Then some fantastic energy pushes you up to the surface, and you take a deep breath and make a long, powerful stroke… Breathtaking!

This actually works everywhere, not only in the swimming pool. Since then, whenever I am to do something big, I just jump into the water. Head forward. Must admit, it doesn’t always work automatically… yet. Not that easy at times, and sometimes I just forget about this technique and need to refresh it. But I practice. And it works :)
